OKC Color Run!!!

Apparently, today was destined to be a double post day!

My fellow OK bloggess, Veronica at Passion, Pink, and Pearls emailed a few of us about an opportunity to promote The Color Run! I’ve wanted to participate for a couple of years now (even though I am vastly out of shape for it), so I naturally jumped at this opportunity!

Don’t know what The Color Run is? Below is a bit about it. You can also visit their About page here.

The Color Run™, also known as the Happiest 5k on the Planet, is a unique paint race that celebrates healthiness, happiness, individuality, and giving back to the community.

Less about your 10-minute-mile and more about having the time of your life, The Color Run is a five-kilometer, un-timed race in which thousands of participants are doused from head to toe in different colors at each kilometer. The fun continues at the finish line with a gigantic “Color Festival,” using more colored powder to create happiness and lasting memories, not to mention millions of vivid color combinations. Trust us, this is the best post-5k party on the planet!

With only two rules, the idea is easy to follow: Wear white at the starting line and finish plastered in color!

And here’s a YouTube video!

Looks like fun, right?! If anything could get me to participate in a run, this is it!

The Color Run takes place in cities all over the country. You can see a complete list along with dates here. The Oklahoma City Color Run takes place on Saturday, October 5th. Registration info is below;

*Solo Runner/Walker
40.00 Early Registration
45.00 starting June 1st, 2013
50.00 starting September 1st, 2013

*4+ Person Color Team Runners & Walkers
35.00 per person Early Registration
40.00 per person starting June 1st, 2013
45.00 per person starting September 1st, 2013

**Creating a team does not secure spots for all 4 members; each team member needs to register BEFORE registration fills up! For tips on the best way to create a team… click here!!

By the way, spectators & kids are welcome, too! But no pets.

And you, my darling readers, should count your lucky stars, because I just so happen to have a code for $5 off your online registration!

Pretty awesome, right?! And this code is good for ANY RUN in ANY CITY that isn’t sold out. Most all of the races DO sell out, so you need to sign up ASAP. And this is important, too: The promo code does NOT guarantee you a spot in the race so when you find the race closest to you that is still open, you should enter soon. And if you have a problem with the website saying the code is not working in a city that is not sold out, please let me know! I can pass it along to my contact & she can get it fixed!

If any of you have ANY questions, please let me know! If I can’t answer a questions, then I will be happy to pass it along & get it answered for you!

I really hope that you all decide to take part in an upcoming color run! I know that I, for one, an very much looking forward to it! Of course, I probably need to start exercising a bit so that I don’t poop out in the first 5 minutes :).

MYSKW: Ξ (I think…)

It’s time for music, people of the blog! And I think I’m on Ξ (Xi), although it may actually be Nu. Oh well. This is going to be a quick post that I’m trying to get done while it’s actually on my mind :). It has been a busy week & I feel very frazzled today, which I’m sure is in part thanks to PLL last night. And it will continue to be a busy week, followed by a busy weekend. I’m exhausted just thinking about it. I plan on spending my Labor Day off on my couch with some sort of nerdy marathon & a book…or five.

Well, this week is a good one. A great one, actually. I’ve got a band I’ve loved for a long time. They are one of my go-to bands when I’m in a bad mood, or just whenever I need a pick-me-up. I find it nearly impossible to sit still and/or not sing along when I listen to them. And they are none other than The Kooks! They are British, naturally, hailing from Brighton. They are rock, and along the lines of The Shins, and Jet, and The Wombats, and The Strokes, and The Fratellis…you should get the picture sound now. (By the way, if you don’t know who those bands are, shame on you. Go listen to all of them.)

Enjoy! And Happy Hump Day!

What the Rosewood just happened?!

If you arent a watcher/fan of Pretty Little Liars, you can disregard this post. And if you
are, and you haven’t seen tonight’s summer finale, beware spoilers. Just leave now because I refuse to take responsibility.

EZRA is A?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! NO!! HELL NO! Please, PLEASE tell me this is some cruel, sick joke. This cannot happen! I won’t allow it! I just won’t! My heart is shattering. ABC Family, you better remedy this in the first episode back in October. In the first 30 seconds of the first episode back, you sadists. Are you trying to hospitalize us? Are you trying to get us all locked up in Radley? WELL?!

I think I need to go do yoga or something and try and calm down. Actually, I think I need a bloody drink.

Before I get into Top Ten Tuesday host by The Broke and the Bookish, a couple of things I forgot yesterday:

  • First off is the casting of Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman in the upcoming sequel to Zac Snyder’s Man of Steel. I’m not crazy about this casting choice, I have to say. I like Ben Affleck. I think he is a very talented director and his is great in the likes of The Town, and Argo, and Good Will Hunting. But remember Daredevil? And Gigli? Yeah. Therefore,  my apprehension in casting him as Batman. I hope, I really, really hope that we are all pleasantly surprised by his performance as the Caped Crusader, and I’m keeping a tiny spark of hope alive because I really want this to work out. Only time will tell…
  • Secondly, this teaser for Season 4 of The Walking Dead. October cannot get here soon enough!!!
  • And thirdly, a movie trailer I forgot to include yesterday: Rush. I was reminded of it last night while watching Top Gear and couldn’t believe I forgot it.

Now for TTT! This week is top ten secondary characters, which was more difficult than I thought it would be. Here’s what I was able to come up with:

  1. Molly Weasley from Harry Potter
  2. Dobby from Harry Potter
  3. Old Mrs Hempstock from The Ocean at the End of the Lane
  4. Melanie from Gone With the Wind
  5. Cinna from The Hunger Games
  6. Tori from Divergent Series
  7. Dr. Bora from The Historian
  8. Merry & Pip from LOTR
  9. Marthe from All Souls Trilogy

And that’s it for me today! See you lads & ladies tomorrow!

Where have I been?!

I’ve been neglecting my blog, I know. But it’s been a busy month & I think I needed a blog break.

Where to even begin?! I have a feeling this post is going to jump all over the place, so bare with me.

I guess I’ll start with my birthday, which was great. I got to have dinner with my mom & the rest of my family, as well as a few of my best friends. And I got some much needed baby time with Michael & Walter at that dinner. Of course, that was just dinner #1 out of four over the course of my birthday week: #2 was on my actual birthday with my aunt & my cousin, #3 was the day after with Tienna & Adriene, culminating in  #4 which involved seeing “The World’s End” which was awesome. But I already knew it was going to be awesome, I mean, how could it not be?!

To make up for missing MYSKW last week, I decided to throw in the playlist I had planned on posting. His name is James Bay, he’s English & I really like him.

Like many out there, i watched the VMAs last night, and here’s my thoughts:

  1. JT killed it, and I completely fangirled out when all of NSYNC was up there. I may stood up on my couch and lept over my coffee table to stand directly in front of the TV during the whole 45 seconds or however long it was they were up there. Maybe.
  2. I really liked Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s performance, and I liked Bruno Mars. I was a little dissapointed though that Daft Punk didn’t perform, because I swear they were slated to. *I was right, they were!
  3. I still can’t stand Gaga or Kanye. At least I watched Gaga’s, which was a waste of my time, but I just skipped right thru Kanye’s.
  4. And lastly, there was Miley. Can I just say, GROSS. REALLY GROSS. That “performance” (more like an exhibition) was disgusting. And she ruined “Blurred Lines.” This is from an article on Salon that seems pretty acurate to me:

“If an alien species came across footage from last night’s MTV VMAs and watched it, trying to determine whether we’re a race worth saving, Earth surely would have been blown up by now. And Miley Cyrus is the woman we’d all be able to thank for that.”

Moving on to some movie news that makes me happy: Michael Fassbender & Marion Cotillard are set to star in a new “faithful” adaptation of Macbeth that’s supposed to begin filming in the UK in January. Macbeth is possibly my favorite of Shakespeare’s plays, so I’m pretty excited about this. That’s not to say that I don’t also love the 70s film version, too. Because I do.

Keeping with movies, I have trailers to share for films I’m really, really excited about. There is an unintentional Cumberbatch theme, just so you know.

The embed code wasn’t working, so here is a link to the Divergent trailer. http://www.mtv.com/videos/movies/949128/vma-2013-exclusive-divergent-first-look.jhtml#id=1712592

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this one before, but I’m not sure. And it doesn’t really matter.

That’s all I’ve got time for today, but hopefully I will be back on schedule this week. Only time will tell…

Happy Birthday Mama!

Today is my mom’s 46th birthday! So this post is just for her :). Why? Because she’s the best. Seriously, she is. I’m a lucky gal. I got very lucky with both of my parents. Not everyone get’s that. And I hope I never take either of them or any of the rest of my family for granted. Anyway, in honor of my mom, I put this together –  these are quite the throwback seeing as my mom’s hair was still blonde! She hasn’t been blonde in years!!

Top to bottom, left to right: My mom impersonating my grandmother while we were in NYC, brother, mom & me on Rodeo Dr. in Beverly Hills (makes me laugh), us in Times Square, and us before my senior prom. Like I said – throwback!

Happy birthday Mama! And thanks for being so great, because you truly are. I love you with all my little heart!!

I changed my mind & MYSKW: Λ

I changed my mind about TTT, mostly because I read the theme incorrectly. I thought it was top 10 books with a beach theme/setting, but instead it’s top ten books with “X” setting. And I chose Europe. And it was a problem narrowing the list down to just 10. So I had to choose a specific country in Europe, and I chose the United Kingdom. Big surprise, I know. I cheated just a little, but it’s my blog so it’s OK :).

  1. Discovery of Witches/Shadow of Night by Deborah Harkness
  2. The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
  3. Harry Potter Series by J.K. Rowling
  4. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
  5. Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
  6. Shakespeare, though namely Macbeth
  7. Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carol
  8. The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary  Anne Shaffer & Annie Barrows
  9. The Chronicles of Narnia Series by C.S. Lewis – mostly set in Narnia, yes, but in normal world in England.
  10. In The Woods by Tana French – This is my biggest cheat, because it’s Ireland. But it’s close enough.

And now, on to the current state of our office. As I have mentioned, we are in the middle of doing some improvements, and this is what it looks like right now:

This is our normal office space. The carpet is in desperate need of a change. I don’t think any of us will miss it.

This is almost all of our desks piled up in one of the owner’s office.

Just a (very) small sampling of our 17,568 filing cabinets in one of our halls. You really have to be careful going around corners…

And this is our re-purposed conference room, when all 10 of us are currently located. We are affectionately referring to it as “The Sweatshop.” (By the way, that’s Mikki cheesing it up for the pic.)

I’m thankful that I get along with everyone in here, otherwise this would be awful. It’s actually kind of fun all being so close to each other (even though I have my earbuds in most of time, just like always), but I will be ready to have my own space back – I miss all my nerdy things & my pictures hanging on my cubicle walls. I do still have Yoda & Mumble sitting under my computer. I have enough trouble thinking with Yoda here, I can’t imagine what I would do if he wasn’t here to guide me with The Force.

Now for music…what to post? Well, I’m going with Walk the Moon, because they were at the top of my stream of SoundCloud & I like them :).

Back to The Sweatshop! 😉

VTC Sumi Slasher One

Yes, it’s Top Ten Tuesday, but I’m skipping this week because A) I don’t really have time, and B) I probably would be able to come up with much of a list. So we move on. We are now in the home stretch, people. That’s right! It is less than one week until my birthday! My big plans are dinner, possibly drinks, & the piece de resistance: The World’s End, which I have been dying to see for quite some time. Plus I get to have dinner with my mom (who’s birthday is Friday) & some family & friends this Sunday night, then my aunt & cousins are taking me to dinner on my birthday. Oh, and I get goodies at work, too. And I still plan on getting my hair done, if I have the funds to do it. I forgot how expensive it can be getting your hair colored in an actual salon as opposed to doing yourself in your bathroom :).

This is really all I have time for today. It’s time to get back to reconciling credit cards in our overcrowded conference room that has been taken over by our AP department as we get new paint, and carpet and cubicles (yay!).

I almost forgot this…

Star Wars wedding photo…who wouldn’t want this?! (Click image to go to article.)

Drogo the Depression Dragon

Let’s just jump right in, shall we?

Today has not been a good day. I woke up with a migraine, so right away I knew today was going to suck. On top of that–maybe even causing the migraine, at least in part–my depression has been building lately, getting worse by the day for the last month or so, and today’s the worst it’s been in a long time. I don’t know why it’s been getting worse lately, I don’t know if I need to up my dosage on my antidepressants or what that deal is.  I do know that because of these things, I have been fighting back tears all day, ever since I broke down crying trying to fix my hair this morning.

I’m stressed & frustrated & tired – I always am, most people are. It’s part of life. But emotions like that are magnified by the depression dragon rearing it’s ugly head again. It’s heavy and it weighs down on my, and I really don’t need any more weight to carry around. Maybe all I need is a good cry (which I will probably have when I get home from work today) & my afternoon off tomorrow, which I plan on spending at a movie.

But I don’t want this to be a complete downer, so in an attempt to lighten the mood & possibly cheer myself up a bit, I thought I’d share the newest trailers for Ender’s Game (via Nerdist) and Thor: The Dark World.

Music You Should Know Wednesday: Kappa & Some Nerdiness

And we’re back on the correct day this week! Lat week was technically Iota, even though I didn’t actually put that anywhere in the post, hence it looks like I skipped from Theta to Kappa (of course, if you aren’t familiar with the Greek alphabet, then it doesn’t really matter).

I’m not really thinking straight today, my head’s all foggy and and I just can’t focus. So, pardon me if this post makes even less sense than normal, or if there are rampant spelling and/or grammatical errors.

Before I get to the music today, I have some nerdiness to share. First up is an update on the TARDIS in Orbit Kickstarter campaign that I’m pretty sure I have posted about before. If I had money, I would have funded this WHOtastic project, but I don’t, so I just tell people about it.

Next is literary nerdiness: this is a link to the 20 most beautiful bookstores as put together by FlavorWire. My personal favorites are as follows (#1 is actually my number one, the rest aren’t really in an order):

  1. Shakespeare & Co. in Paris – I’m pretty sure that I could live there. One day I would actually like to see it in person, though.
  2. Livraria Lello in Portugal
  3. Libreria el Ateneo Grand Splendid in Argentina
  4. Barter Book in Alnwick (UK)
  5. Bart’s Books in Ojai, CA

And there’s also this – the 25 best websites for bookish people, also compiled by FlavorWire.

My fellow literature lovers: you’re welcome. Now to the music.

Today’s ear candy is courtesy of yet another one of my favorite bands: The Avett Brothers. Who are they? Well, they are brothers (shocking, I know), Seth and Scott Avett, as well as a few other band members–currently Joe Kwon, Jacob Edwards & Bob Crawford–and they make rock music mixed with folk and bluegrass…basically, they are indie/folk/rock yumminess. And, yes, music can be yummy. My favorite song by them is the first one on the playlist, so start there. As always, enjoy!
